Diabetic Foot Screening
This workshop is part of our 'Hands on Feet' series, designed to emphasise practical application. Learners will have ample hands-on time to apply the theory and skills they've learned in a real-world setting.
Using NICE guidance as a framework, this workshop aims to equip the learner with the knowledge and expertise to competently examine and screen the diabetic foot for both existing and potential problems.
Whether you are looking for a refresher or are new to carrying out diabetic foot checks, this workshop covers:
-
The definition of a foot ulcer
-
The economic and personal cost of developing a foot ulcer
-
When foot screening should be performed
-
The factors contributing to someone developing a foot ulcer
-
The method and steps to take when examining the diabetic foot
-
Diabetic foot risk algorithms
-
How to apply the correct risk classification
-
Suitable footwear for people with diabetes
-
The causes of neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
-
The Ipswich Touch Test and the Neuropad® screening test
-
The process of referral for the person with diabetes at each classification of risk
-
Practical demonstration by the educator (a podiatrist) who then observes and assists the learners during a practical session
This workshop is catered to all practitioners working for social care or healthcare providers (whether in registered or non-registered roles) who are involved in examining the feet of people with diabetes.
Diabetic Foot Screening Train the Trainer
We are currently developing a course designed to support NHS healthcare professionals involved in delivering diabetes training or leading diabetes care within their organisation or across specific geographical areas and patient populations.
Our goal is to empower more organisations and individuals to confidently train others to competently examine diabetic feet in line with current national guidelines and local pathways.
This two-day course will take you through all aspects covered in our 'Diabetic Foot Screening' workshop, as well as:
-
an introduction to diabetes and podiatry
-
an interactive session to teach general training and educational skills which you can use throughout your career
-
a practical guide to diabetic foot screening
-
the essential tools and confidence to deliver effective diabetic foot screening training by yourself
We will also provide pre-developed training materials that you can use in your future training sessions under a licence agreement.
Informative and easy to understand. Hands-on training very helpful with useful literature to take away. Feel much more confident about diabetic foot screening. Money well spent!
